Why a Cleanroom Swing Door Is Not a Standard Commercial Door

A standard swing door has gaps at every edge — head, sides, and floor — through which air, particles, and microbial contamination flow freely. A cleanroom hermetic swing door engineers a positive seal at every edge, every closing cycle, without any manual action by the user.

Automatic Drop Seal — The Floor Gap Solution

The most critical feature of any hermetic swing door is the automatic drop seal. Driven by the door leaf’s own closing momentum, a mechanical mechanism deploys a rubber or brush seal to the floor surface the instant the door closes. When the door opens, the seal retracts automatically to clear the floor. Standard fire or acoustic doors have a permanent floor gap of 6–10mm that allows continuous air leakage regardless of the door position.

Perimeter Brush + Compression Seal System

A continuous brush seal on the head and both vertical jambs provides primary air leakage resistance, while a secondary compression seal on the door stop provides back-up containment. Together they achieve Class 4 air leakage performance (<1 m³/h at 4 Pa) — the certification standard for pharmaceutical cleanroom doors. Standard fire doors achieve Class 3 at best (4 m³/h) under the same conditions.

Standard framed vision panels have a stepped rebate on both faces where the frame meets the glass — a particle-trapping ledge that cannot be cleaned. Our flush-mount vision panel system brings the glass flush with the door face on the cleanroom side, eliminating the ledge entirely. The result is a smooth, fully wipeable surface that meets ISO 14644 cleanroom surface requirements.

Hydraulic Auto-Closer — Every Cycle

A cleanroom door that relies on personnel to close it fully will inevitably be left ajar. A calibrated hydraulic auto-closer ensures the door returns to the full seal position every single time — with adjustable closing speed to prevent slam damage and controlled latching force to compress the perimeter seal fully at every cycle.
